Applying Evidence to Practice: VTE Prevention and Thrombophilia Testing for Surgical and Non-Surgical Patients - UPMC Hamot

The purpose of this course is to provide the latest updates and practice guidelines in VTE prevention and thrombophilia testing.

Target Audience

Faculty, residents, fellows, and community physicians in General Internal Medicine and subspecialties.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Compare and contrast clinical trial and observational evidence for VTE prevention in major orthopedic surgery
  • Review appropriate VTE prevention strategies for patients undergoing major orthopedic surgery.
  • Discuss when thrombophilia testing is appropriate for hospitalized patients Interpret thrombophilia test results for patients with acute VTE
