- Discovery Practicum: Mock Deposition

Target Audience

This program is designed specifically for advanced practice providers interested in updating their practice and refreshing their knowledge related to common disease states, comorbidities and complications.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

  • Review general principles of skin biopsy
  • Identify the indications for skin biopsy
  • Discuss different methods of skin biopsy including shave, punch, and excisional biopsy
  • Perform a punch biopsy
  • Recognize the risks/benefits of HRT and its continued use in postmenopausal patients
  • Determine appropriate candidates for varying forms of HRT and alternative treatment options for menopausal
  • Diagnose different pelvic floor dysfunctions
  • Differentiate between the different types of incontinence, pelvic pain, prolapse, and constipation
  • Identify treatment options for different types of pelvic floor dysfunction
  • Review the presentation, diagnosis, and management of asthma
  • Discuss the indication for pulmonary function testing
  • Identify components of a computed topography using correct terminology
  • Develop a systemic approach to computed topography interpretation
  • Analyze a computed topography and identify common normal and abnormal findings
  • Describe updated treatment modalities for migraine headaches
  • Discuss indications for pharmacologic treatment and lifestyle modifications for migraine pain management
  • Review updated guidelines and compare treatment options for atrial fibrillation
  • Discuss a team-based approach for identification and care of patients with atrial fibrillation
  • Review prescribing guidelines and contraindications for PrEP
  • Review strategies to increase patient compliance with PrEP
  • Discuss updated HIV guidelines and statistics
  • Review key factors to aid physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses and other allied health care professionals during deposition
  • Review how to prepare for a deposition by knowing the medical record thoroughly and understanding the roles of attorneys and defendant, communicate truthfully during the deposition without providing additional information, and recognize the vital role of the medical record in malpractice cases
  • Explain behaviors in medical practice that reduce the likelihood of malpractice litigation, including good communication with peers
