WEBEX: Antimicrobial Stewardship: Best Practices in the Treatment of Community-Acquired Lower Respiratory Tract Infections

This activity will help fill the gap by aiding pharmacists in the treatment of patients with community-acquired lower respiratory tract infections with selection of guideline-recommended empiric antimicrobial selection, recognition of when to narrow and/or discontinue antimicrobial therapy, and assure that selected antimicrobial treatment durations are concordant with available evidence.

Learning Objectives

Identify an empiric antibiotic treatment regimen for community-acquired pneumonia, acute exacerbations of COPD, and aspiration pneumonia that is concordant with current clinical practice guidelines.

Recognize when to narrow and/or discontinue antibiotic therapy in patients with community-acquired lower respiratory tract conditions.

Describe laboratory-based diagnostic techniques that can assist with differentiating bacterial and non-bacterial causes of respiratory symptoms.
