Learning Objectives
• Gain a comprehensive understanding of emerging infectious diseases, including influenza, RSV, and more.
• Develop effective communication skills to combat vaccine hesitancy by learning specific techniques, such as motivational interviewing and empathy-based messaging, tailored to address common concerns and misinformation.
• Enhance community engagement by partnering with local organizations, such as health departments and community centers, conducting listening sessions to gather community feedback, and involving trusted community voices like local leaders and influencers in vaccine advocacy efforts.
• Improve their ability to address misinformation by developing strategies to counteract false information on social media and other platforms and promote health equity by referring patients to community resources like transportation and financial assistance programs, and ensuring vaccine access in underserved areas through mobile clinics and outreach initiatives.
• Receive an update on the current climate in Allegheny County regarding infectious disease prevalence and vaccination rates, enabling them to tailor their strategies to local needs and conditions.
In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by the University of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County Immunization Coalition. The University of Pittsburgh is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
