The 2024 Stroke Symposium: Presented by UPMC Stroke Institute is designed to provide the most recent advances in stroke care for nurses and health care providers including physical, occupational, and speech therapists, APPs, physicians, etc. This event has been developed to add to the educational requirements of nurses and other health care professionals who work at certified stroke centers and to provide education to health care professionals who care for stroke patients.

Target Audience

This conference is geared towards nurses, physicians, physical, occupational, speech language therapy, APPs, and other health care professionals who are affiliated with neurology, emergency medicine, neurosurgery and are working with patients through pre-, intra, and post-acute stroke care.

Learning Objectives

  1. Develop the understanding of pre-hospital stroke care and the importance of communication.
  2. Understand Dysphagia Screening and Interventions following Stroke.
  3. Understand surgical treatment options for carotid disease.
  4. Develop an understanding the importance of Early Mobilization After Stroke   
  5. Understanding the applications of transcranial dopplers in Stroke Neurology.
  6. To become familiar with large core stroke treatments, cryptogenic stroke treatments, and pediatric strokes.
  7. Discussion of mild stroke in large vessel occlusion.
  8. Discussion and understanding Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension & Venous Sinus Treatment
  9. Become familiar with treatment options for aneurysms.
  10. Become familiar with decision-making regarding return to driving.
