DEA MATE ACT for Prescribers: Evidence Based Approaches to Screen, Treat and Refer SUD Patients - And Safely Treat Pain for All

MEET THE 8-HOUR DEA MATE ACT REQUIREMENT !

This 2-part course is designed to fulfill the Medication Assisted Treatment Education (MATE) training requirements set by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for all DEA-registered practitioners, except veterinarians, to complete eight-hours of training on on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders.

  • PART 1: 6-Hours Virtual on December 1 (Zoom)
  • PART 2: 2-Hours Online Only (Link provided following the activity)

This course is offered in partnership with Allegheny Medical College, AHEC West, the Allegany/Garrett Dental Association, and UPMC Western Maryland.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the biopsychosocial root causes of addiction including risks and protective factors, including epigenetics.
  • Recognize drug-seeking behavior and signs of medication misuse and appropriately address patient non-compliance.
  • List the FDA approved Medication Assisted Treatment options, including benefits, risks and contraindications.
  • Outline the laws, regulations, and best practices related to controlled substances. 
  • Describe the societal impacts of the SUD crisis and the prescriber’s role in mitigating SUD risk through screening and pain management practices.
