Introduction to Motivational Interviewing Blended Learning Follow-up Skills Lab 03-03-2023
The purpose of this training is to enhance client-centered communication approach and skills using the framework of Motivational Interviewing. Attendees have completed 12 hours of self-paced asynchronous coursework and partner activities ahead of the live session and will debrief learnings and practice skills in this session.

Learning Objectives
- Describe the core principles, micro skills, and "spirit" of motivational interviewing (MI)
- Demonstrate MI strategies used in the engaging, focusing, evoking, and planning phases through case study review
- Role-play using all the MI strategies and phases as a culminating activity
- Identify a plan of action or next steps in building a skill set in MI

Renee Greenwald, MS, NBC-HWC
Renee Greenwald is the Manager of Clinical Training & Quality Assurance at UPMC Health Plan where she is responsible for supporting the Health Coach Academy team with developing the Motivational Interviewing skillset of UPMC Health Plan clinicians through various training and Quality Assurance Review. She has a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Slippery Rock University and a Master of Science in Exercise Science and Health Promotion, specializing in wellness and fitness and wellness coaching from PennWest California. Renee is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers and is a Nationally Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach with about 5 years of experience in health coaching.
Brittany Chapman, MSW, NBC-HWC
Brittany is a Clinical Engagement Coordinator at UPMC Health Plan. Her responsibilities include professional skill development and training of care managers and health coaches. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Wright State University and a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Southern California. Brittany is also a National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach with about 6 years of experience in Health Coaching
This activity is eligible for endorsed credit for UPMC Health Plan EMTs and Paramedics. Complete ETHOS course work, obtain the attendance certificate, and submit to EMS governing body for 3.5 CE credit(s).
