This course provides information regarding the AHA Stroke Practice Guidelines including VTE prophylaxis, bedside dysphagia screening, and interdisciplinary care for stroke patients.

Target Audience

This course is open to nurses caring for stroke patients at UPMC St. Margaret.

Learning Objectives

The learner will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the components of the NIH stroke scale and the neurological exam
  • Recognize the importance of the AHA Stroke Practice Guidelines
  • Identify components of the care of stroke patients
  • Review the application of the stroke guidelines to clinical practice
  • Understand the indications for use, proper administration, and patient monitoring for Tenecteplase
