Introduction
TiPS is a Pennsylvania HealthChoices program designed to increase the availability to child psychiatry consultation teams regionally and telephonically to primary care providers, for children insured by either Pennsylvania’s Medical Assistance (Medicaid) Program or Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). In addition to real time peer to peer consultation, TiPS provides free training and education to pediatric practitioners on a variety of behavioral health topics that are relevant to primary care.
The UPMC Children’s TiPS teams serves providers who see children and adolescents in the northwestern and southwestern Health Choices Zones and secured additional funding to expand service to include children insured by UPMC Advantage. Based on feedback from providers calling the UPMC Children’s TiPS line, as well as feedback from our recent trainings & conferences, there was a strong interest in focusing our training efforts in 2024 to address the needs of children & adolescents with Autism and Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (IDD). We developed a steering committee which consists of pediatric primary care, behavioral health, intellectual disability, autism spectrum professionals and families. This committee helped create a day-long experience whereby experts in the field of Autism and IDD, including families, work together to help guide us on how we can better meet the needs of patients/families with ASD and/or IDD in medical settings, specifically the primary medical home.
This conference is being sponsored by the UPMC Children’s Community Pediatrics Children’s TIPS Team and co-funded by Pennsylvania HealthChoices and UPMC Health Plan. Additional philanthropic support was made possible by UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation
Target Audience
Who Should Attend
- Pediatric Primary Care Physicians, Family Practice Physicians, and Advanced Practice Providers (PA, DNP, CRNP), and Behavioral Health Providers working in a primary care office who practice in the northwestern, and southwestern PA counties.
- Behavioral Health Providers practicing in community settings.
- Parents/caregivers of a child diagnosed with ASD and/or IDD.

Learning Objectives
At the completion of the program, participants will be able to:
- Discuss how to utilize Children’s TiPS for psychiatric consultation.
- Discuss early identification of ASD and IDD in the pediatric primary care setting.
- Explore the impact of delayed diagnosis on children and families.
- Describe practices and/or standards of care that improve the patient/family experience during physical health appointments.
- Review primary care medication management guidelines/recommendations for comorbid behavioral health conditions.

Other professionals are awarded .60 Continuing Education Units (CEU's). One CEU is equal to 10 contact hours. Peer Specialists: This program fulfills requirements for Certified Peer Specialist continuing education.
- NBCC and General CEU – Participants will be awarded continuing education contact hour(s) certificate four to six weeks post-conference via e-mail. Please keep these certificates in a safe place. Replacements will cost $30.
- CME, AAPA, ANCC, CRNP, PA, APA and LSW/LCSW/LPC/LMFT certificates will be issued from the CCEHS registration site.
- Completing the evaluation is not required, however it is encouraged.
- We request that evaluations are completed and/or certificates are requested via https://cce.upmc.com within a month of the conference. Please be aware that the program evaluation will be closed, and we will no longer process certificates if they are requested a year or more after the conference.
