WLA - Infection Prevention System Orientation Module 6: Sterile Processing

New Infection Preventionists need to receive standardized, system-level guidance about best practices to ensure sterility; point of use treatment of instruments; cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilization; reprocessing of single-use devices; mitigation strategies; and auditing and checklists. This enables them to act as the subject matter expert about best practices to ensure sterility, which promotes staff and patient safety.

  • Describe appropriate resources for cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilization.
  • List the steps for sterilizer failure investigation and recall processes.
  • Describe scope culturing as it relates to High-Level Disinfection.
