Heart Failure Success: Teaching the Teachers. Nursing Education on Heart Failure Management, Medications and Care (Self-Study)

This educational program is focused on heart failure education for nurses. As the primary educator of patient, nursing must have a comprehensive understanding of management of heart failure including guideline directed medical therapy, signs and symptoms of worsening heart failure, and lifestyle modifications required to allow patients to successfully live healthy lives, prevent (or recognize) signs of decompensation, and reduced hospitalizations and readmissions.

Target Audience

This course is designed for physicians, nurses, and clinical staff.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Define the updated classifications and definitions of heart failure. 
  • Review guideline-directed medical therapies (GDMT) and discuss practical components of initiating and maintaining GDMT. 
  • Identify symptoms, side effects and when to call provider.
  • Apply lifestyle modifications such as dietary and fluid restrictions, activity, etc for patients with heart failure.
