APP Mini Conference: Fall Back into Learning 2024

Medicine is constantly changing, and providers need to be up to date on current trends and best practices as it relates to contraception, diagnosis and management of pericarditis, and pediatric diabetes and obesity. This course will review and prepare the nurse practitioner and physician's assistant to provide care to a wide variety of patients including those needing contraceptive counseling, care related to management of pericarditis, and using diabetes technologies or novel medications for treatment of obesity.

After the conclusion of the conference the learner will be able to:

1. Review the current reversible contraceptive products that are available in the U.S.

2. Understand medical indications for use of various reversible types of contraception

3. Summarize the usage of common forms of emergency contraception

4. Describe the background and clinical presentation of Myocarditis/Pericarditis

5. Understand the work up and clinical diagnosis of Myocarditis/Pericarditis

6. Present latest standards for treatment of Myocarditis/Pericarditis

7. Identify types of CGM devices used within the pediatric population.

8. Describe benefits of the use of CGM devices for patients with diabetes.

9. Discuss the new advances in insulin pump therapies

10. Describe indications for GLP-1 use.

    5. Describe the challenges of GLP-1 agonists related to insurance coverage, cost, and availability.

Title:  Hypertension in Pediatrics and Adolescents

Presenter: Emily Horosko, PA-C

Learning Objectives:

    1. Describe how to properly take a blood pressure and why this is important.
    2. Define hypertension in pediatrics and work up that is needed once hypertension is identified.
    3. Discuss identification, treatment, and management of acute hypertension in the inpatient setting.
