UPSTANDER training is built upon the framework of IQEE (Interrupt, Question, Educate, Echo) adopted with permission from the Learning for Justice project from the Southern Poverty Law Center. The learning aim for participating in this training is to acquire actionable tools to implement in the face of witnessing or receiving bias, prejudice, or microaggressions. These skills may be used from the witness or victim perspective; however, our main focus is on building strength for others to SPEAK UP so the responsibility is no longer left to the person who has been victimized but upon the other people who listened or watched. We also address how to be the best ally and overcome the pitfalls of allyship. Our goal is to have everyone become UPSTANDERs to actively change culture and policy to build a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for ALL.
