This continuing education presentation provides a review of the updated 2025 AHA hypertension guidelines, including, but not limited to new blood pressure targets, the introduction of the PREVENT risk calculator and updated guidance for hypertension in pregnancy.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

1. Identify blood pressure categories and select appropriate antihypertensive treatment strategies based on blood pressure stage and risk.

2. Define first-line antihypertensive agents recommended by the updated AHA hypertension guidelines and describe their key characteristics and clinical considerations.

3. Apply updated risk-based treatment recommendations using the PREVENT model and identify recommendations for patients with comorbidities.

4. Recognize updated blood pressure management recommendations in special populations, including acute stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, pregnancy, cognitive impairment, and resistant hypertension
