OAPP Grand Rounds - Reimagining Clinical Reasoning in the Age of AI (WISER)

Clinicians face diagnostic complexity, cognitive bias, and uncertainty about the safe and effective use of generative AI in clinical practice. This activity addresses gaps in knowledge, competence, and performance by providing practical and ethical strategies for integrating AI into clinical reasoning to improve diagnostic accuracy, efficiency, and patient safety.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Analyze the role of generative AI in augmenting clinical reasoning and clinical decision-making.
  • Recognize common cognitive biases in diagnostic thinking and apply AI-enabled tools to mitigate their impact on clinical decisions.
  • Evaluate the ethical, practical, and educational implications of using AI-powered tools in clinical environments.
  • Implement strategies for integrating generative AI into clinical workflows to enhance efficiency while maintaining patient safety and appropriate provider judgment.
