Breaking Issues in Opioid Use Disorder Treatment

The goal of this continuing education program is to educate attendees on emerging therapeutic approaches for opioid use disorder (OUD) and barriers and facilitators regarding access to OUD treatment..

Target Audience

This course is targeted to educate Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Pharmacists, Physicians, Physician Assistants, and Social Workers.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Compare the mechanism, efficacy, and safety of FDA-approved medications for OUD
  • Describe evidence-based buprenorphine initiation strategies
  • Explain updated approaches to long-acting injectable buprenorphine initiation
  • Identify barriers and facilitators to pharmacist dispensing of buprenorphine and provision of naloxone and syringes
  • Describe recent regulatory and policy changes affecting pharmacy-based OUD care.
  • Apply evidence-based, non-stigmatizing practices to reduce dispensing delays and improve access to OUD treatment
