9/17/2026 Anesthesiology Grand Rounds - From Probe to Plan: Tailoring Anesthetic Management Based on Pre-Induction Cardiac POCUS Findings- Marcos Cruvinel MD
This online CME activity uses real-world cases to demonstrate how cardiac point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) can identify clinically significant findings in patients undergoing urgent non-cardiac surgery. Participants will explore a stepwise approach for recognizing cardiac red flags and translating POCUS findings into individualized anesthetic and perioperative management plans.
Target Audience
Anesthesiologists and anesthesiologists-in-training and other anesthesia professionals, nurse anesthetists and anesthesia assistants.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Tailor anesthesia according to most common phenotypes.
- Identify the appropriate indications for the use of preoperative cardiac POCUS in perioperative patient assessment.
- Recognize key cardiac structures, findings, and assessment elements when performing cardiac POCUS.
- Identify red flag findings on cardiac POCUS that warrant additional evaluation or modification of perioperative management.
- Tailor anesthetic management according to the most common patient phenotypes identified during preoperative assessment.
