ForwardCulture: Considerations Across the Health Care Continuum
The purpose of this educational activity is to provide education related to the influence of culture across the health care continuum, the impact this has upon the health care of specific populations, and available resources/support to overcome identified barriers to care.

Denise Stahl, MSN, FPCN
Current Position: CareMore Aspire Health Clinical Education Partner, Sr.
Denise is currently Clinical Education Partner with CareMore Aspire Health and previously the Regional Vice President of the Northeast Region for Aspire Healthcare. Before joining Aspire Health, Denise held the position of Chief Clinical Officer of the Optum Center for Palliative and Supportive Care and Vice President of Palliative Care for Optum. In this role, she supported development and sustainability of specialty palliative care programs in community and long-term care, comprehensive advance care planning education for consumers, clinicians and providers, and also facilitated integration of primary palliative care across the Optum enterprise. Previously, Denise served as Executive Director of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s Palliative and Supportive Institute. Denise is an Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist with more than 25 years of experience working in hospice and palliative care. Denise has taught in the Schools of Nursing and Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh, the Community College of Allegheny County, as well as many other schools of nursing in Western PA. Denise was recently appointed to the board of directors for the American Academy of Home Care Medicine. Denise is also Past-President of the Hospice and Palliative Credentialing Center (formerly known as the National Board for Certification of Hospice and Palliative Nurses) past-Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Alliance for Excellence in Hospice and Palliative Nursing, and past chair of the Joint Strategy Council for the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Foundation, Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association and Hospice and Palliative Credentialing Center. She is currently Chair-Elect for the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Foundation. Denise is a widely recognized EPEC and ELNEC trainer for clinicians and providers working in end of life care and is known locally, regionally and nationally for her expertise in palliative care. Denise is also actively involved in the local and national community as an advocate for all issues related to improving care for persons with serious illness and an active member of the Coalition for Quality at End of Life in Pennsylvania.
In support of improving patient care, the University of Pittsburgh is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
