Triaging the Pediatric Patient

This course will review pediatric triage. Improper triage can lead to delays in patient rooming, care or diagnosis. By being able to better understand how to identify and properly triage pediatric patients, better communication, faster care and proper dispositions can be made. Further, a deeper understanding from a provider level on what each ESI levels means for that patient can better help them to effectively communicate patient status and prioritize their patients.

After attending this course the learner will be able to:

1. Identify 3 differences in adult and pediatric presentations in an emergency department triage setting

2. Identify 2 key resources and assessment finding for each ESI leveling (1-5) for pediatric patients in an emergency department

3. List 3 key factors that would warrant a reassessment and up triage of a pediatric patient while in the waiting room
