2022 Erie ENT Alumni Day
This conference provides attendees with updated scientific knowledge and practice guidelines in Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery, including subspecialty areas such as upper airway, head and neck, sleep, sinus, oncology, and otology. Participants will learn relevant and timely information on hypoglossal nerve stimulators, Crural j flaps, head and neck cancer therapy, medical management of ENT patients, and surgical techniques for a variety of procedures.
There are many recreational options to enjoy on a July afternoon in Erie, PA. Join the UPMC Hamot ENT residents and attendings for golf at the Kahkwa Club (please RSVP by July 9 to kutza@upmc.edu for golf) or enjoy a different activity of your choosing. Some ideas are below:

Target Audience
Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery physicians, residents, and medical students are the primary audience for this conference. Nurses, advanced practice providers, and other clinical staff who currently work in an ENT setting or who would like to expand their ENT knowledge may also benefit from attending.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
• Define certain eponyms in ENT
• Discuss the history behind eponyms in ENT
• Develop differential diagnosis skills
• Define additional diagnostic tests that can be utilized in the care of patients
• Discuss the indications and develop a fluid workflow to establish good candidates for hypoglossal nerve stimulators
• Discuss surgical techniques and tips for successful implantation of a hypoglossal nerve stimulator
• Define the advantages of canal wall down (CWD) mastoidectomies
• Explain how to perform CWD mastoidectomies
• Recognize the joy of ear surgery
• Identify anatomy of the internal nasal valve
• Describe different approaches to correct nasal obstruction secondary to INV collapse
• Identify ultrasound characteristics that are more likely to represent malignant thyroid nodules in the pediatric population
• Discuss use of a PDF plate covered with TPF fascia graft for quick, easy, and highly successful repair of septal perforations
• Describe what a Crural J Flap is
• Discuss the design of the Crural J Flap
• Identify patients who may benefit from a Crural J flap procedure
• Describe process for educating athletes how to limit or avoid excessive noise exposure
• Discuss the initial diagnosis, work-up, and management of solitary fibrous tumors of the head and neck region
• Identify the histo- and clinico-pathologic features of solitary fibrous tumors
• Discuss the indications for sentinel lymph node biopsy in oral cavity cancer
• Discuss recent updates regarding the radiation and systemic therapy approach for common head and neck cancers, including roles for induction therapy, immunotherapy, and postoperative therapy
• Describe recent strategies to improve functional outcomes and quality of life through targeted therapeutic de-intensification in selected patients

Attire for the seminar is business casual. Since meeting room temperatures and personal comfort levels vary, it is recommended that you bring a sweater or jacket to the conference.
