This course will enhance your ability to identify medical code sets and understand their use in provider reporting of services. It will also teach you how to accurately assign medical codes for reporting diagnoses, services, and quality measures addressed during an encounter.
Target Audience
This course is designed for physicians, nurses, and clinical staff.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Explain the importance of medical coding as it converts provider documentation into structured data for services performed and diagnoses addressed during an encounter.
- Increase knowledge to understand codes representing patient severity of illness and quality measures performed are just as important as codes for provider reimbursement.
- Describe the main code sets (CPT ®, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM) for provider reimbursement and quality measure reporting.
