OAPP Grand Rounds - What’s NOT in Mandatory Reporter Training But Probably Should Be: Useful information for Working with CPS and CACs (WISER)
This education activity equips healthcare providers—including physicians, PAs, nurses, and other team members—with the knowledge and tools to confidently identify and report suspected child abuse. By fostering a consistent understanding of Child Protective Services (CPS) processes, mandated reporting requirements, and the role of the Child Advocacy Center, the program strengthens interprofessional collaboration and ensures timely, thorough ChildLine reporting. Participants will be better prepared to guide families through next steps, utilize available resources effectively, and contribute to improved child safety outcomes through a unified, informed healthcare team response.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Recall the basic structure of Child Protective Services in Pennsylvania to be able to help yourself and families anticipate next steps.
- Identify services the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Child Advocacy Center offers and how to utilize them.
- Describe the components of a good Childline/Report to CPS and have confidence in your ability to report.
- Recognize the exceptions to the rule of disclosing to families that you are reporting.
