Meeting the Needs of Patients with Autism_Enduring
This course is designed for medical providers who want a better understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) concepts and terminology, health disparities, and how to apply best practices for clinical and non-clinical care of ASD patients. The training materials will be made available to UPMC Health Plan network to better educate across the company and foster inclusivity.
Target Audience
This training is designed for nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians, physician assistant and other health care professionals who seek improved quality of care for the patients.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Define words related to ASD.
- Recognize that ASD patients make up a significant portion of the population. You have patients, customers, Health Plan members, residents, co-workers, family, and/or friends who are members of the ASD community.
- Explore the challenges ASD individuals face when seeking health care.
- Examine health issues that ASD patients may experience more often than other patient populations.
- Recall strategies to communicate and interact with ASD patients, customers, members, residents, and co-workers to provide them with the best possible experience in a health care setting.
