UPMC Neuroscience Conference

Neuroscience nursing is a specialty field. Equipping the neuroscience nurse with enhanced knowledge of the central nervous system contributes to frontline nursing staff delivering the highest level of expert nursing care. Given the number of new nurses entering the workforce and constant updates in clinical practice, this educational activity will provide nurses with the knowledge to further promote safe patient care.

Identify the indications for superior temporal artery-middle cerebral artery (STA-MCA) bypasses.

Describe nursing care for patients undergoing STA-MCA bypasses.

Explore prehospital systems of care specific to the stroke and trauma populations.

Describe the prevalence of stroke in patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Identify key neuroscience nursing care interventions to improve patient care and outcomes.

Describe central nervous system anatomy and physiology.

Explore abnormal findings within the central nervous system manifested by common disease pathologies including traumatic brain injury, stroke, and spinal cord injury.
