
2025 UPMC Regional Neurocritical Care Conference
Neurocritical Care is a relatively new specialty taking care of a complex subset of patients with a wide variety of neurological illnesses, requiring collaboration across fields and up-to-date training. This educational activity will provide a wide variety of providers with the opportunity to learn about the total care of these patients and a few of the most common disease dealt with in a modern neuro ICU. In addition, it will showcase the breadth of UPMCs neurocritical care focus.

Learning Objectives
- Recognize the vision that UPMC has for standardizing Neurocritical Care across the UPMC System
- Learn how AI is impacting the field of neurocritical care
- Explain how AI and large data sets are helping individualize patient care in the neuro ICU.
- Treat status epilepticus from the first phases in the emergency department to the treatment of refractory status epilepticus in the ICU with continuous drips.
- Predict the course of dysphagia after a variety of causes.
- Prognosticate the improvement of dysphagia over time.
- Explain the difference between FEES and modified barium swallow exams and when each is used.
- Identify different image modalities for tumor diagnosis.
- Explain the initial management and thought process after finding an intracranial mass.
- Recognize PSH in the neuro ICU.
- Treat PSH in the neuro ICU.
- Reflect on well-being and self-care for the neuro ICU provider.
- Learn about the patient experience in the neuro ICU from a former patient.

Registrants will be e-mailed a Zoom link 3 days prior to the conference. Virtual attendees will be able to ask questions using the Q&A function in Zoom.

PHARMACY (CPE)
This knowledge-based activity provides 5.25 contact hours of continuing pharmacy education credit.
NURSING (CNE)
A maximum of 5.25 nursing contact hours will be awarded. Participants will be able to claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the program.
SOCIAL WORK
As a Jointly Accredited Organization, University of Pittsburgh is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. University of Pittsburgh maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive 5.25 continuing education credits.
Stroke Credit
Sessions that meet requirements for stroke education hours will be indicated on the credit designation form at the conference. This activity has been designed to meet the requirements for 1.5 stroke education hours.

Other health care professionals will receive a certificate of attendance confirming the number of contact hours commensurate with the extent of participation in this activity.
