5th Annual Acute Neurovascular Symposium
The Fifth Annual Acute Neurovascular Symposium is designed to provide the most recent advances in stroke care for nurses and health care providers including physical, occupational, and speech therapists. This event is held annually to assist with educational requirements of nurses and to provide education to health care professionals who care for stroke patients. The faculty of experts will present stroke research, didactic training, and case presentations on Acute Stroke Care.
In July 2022, UPMC Altoona earned initial certification from the Joint Commission as a certified Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center. UPMC Altoona is recognized with the Get With The Guidelines® —Stroke Gold Plus award and the Target: Stroke Honor Roll-Elite Plus. UPMC Altoona is part of a system of an elite group of hospitals in the UPMC system recognized by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.
The award recognizes that UPMC Altoona is committed to provide a higher standard of stroke care for every stroke patient based on evidence-based standards.
Target Audience
This one-day symposium is geared toward nurses, physicians, EMS, therapists, and other health care professionals who provide neurology, emergency medicine, neurosurgery, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and cognitive therapy services to patients from pre- through post-acute stroke.
Learning Objectives
• Understand treatment options for IIH and CVST, including venous sinus stenting and endovascular debulking
• Discuss the role of IV thrombolysis in acute ischemic stroke treatment
• Discuss the updates and advancement of EVT for large vessel occlusions
• Understand the risks of stroke in women
• Understand the diagnostic evaluation for secondary stroke prevention
• Discuss mental health post stroke
