APP Jump Start: Clinical Onboarding and Orientation Essentials
With every new hire Advanced Practice Provider (APP), regardless of their experience, a gap exists between what the APP knows at the time of hire and what they must know to be safe, competent, and successful in their role. This is referred to as the transition gap. This course provides all new hire APPs a common launching point to begin to fill in their transition to practice knowledge gap.
Target Audience
This CME training is designed for newly hired physician assistants and nurse practitioners to enhance their communication and teamwork skills, focusing on diversity best practices, difficult conversations, and effective communication within healthcare teams.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe core components of UPMC organizational enculturation including support offered by the Office of Advanced Practice Providers, important HR policies and benefits, ongoing performance evaluation, cultural competency, ethics, and legal issues as they relate to APP practice.
- Define key quality and patient safety initiatives and their impact on patient care.
- Identify general medical topics that support best APP practice including antibiotic stewardship, effective communication, shared decision making, health literacy, opioid training, and practice sustainability.
