Developing Fluency for Young Children Experiencing Trauma

Target Audience

Pediatric Nurses

Learning Objectives

1. Participants will be able to define “trauma” and traumatic stress while identifying the factors which influence a child’s stress response to traumatic events and the impacts it has on development.

2. Participants will understand how maladaptive behavior is communication in young children who have experienced trauma and ways to respond with empathetic support. 

3. Participants will identify strategies to provide trauma-informed supports to assist in the development of adaptive functioning in early childhood.
