12th Annual Neonatal and Pediatric ECLS Educational Conference
Welcome to the 12th Annual Neonatal & Pediatric ECLS Educational Conference at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. We dedicate this conference to providing educational opportunities for clinicians caring for children requiring Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS) therapy including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and ventricular assist device (VAD) support.
We are excited to have transitioned to an all-virtual platform that allows us to continue to provide one-of-a-kind educational opportunities through interactive high-fidelity simulation activities, interesting case discussions, and live “hands-on” training demonstrations. The virtual platform provides increased opportunity to reach those that would be unable to attend in person.
Our goal is to provide clinicians of all levels a chance to enhance their knowledge of managing pediatric patients requiring ECLS. We are delighted to have you join us and hope that you enjoy this engaging and comprehensive program.
Target Audience
This ECLS educational event is designed for ECMO specialists, pediatric and adult critical care physicians, pediatric and adult surgeons, perfusionists, neonatologists, advanced practice providers, registered nurses and respiratory therapists, and any other professionals interested neonatal and pediatric ECLS.
Learning Objectives
The purpose of this course is to provide a didactic and “hands-on” based education in an interactive multidisciplinary format for health care providers who care for patients receiving extracorporeal support. After participating in this educational activity, participants should:
• Be able to discuss appropriate inclusion/exclusion criteria for ECPR for out of hospital cardiac arrest
• Be able to discuss patient selection ECLS for procedural support
• Be familiar and comfortable with different strategies for physical therapy for patients on ECLS
• Be able to provide appropriate family resources and support for families with loved ones on ECLS
• Have an appreciation for the benefits of having a multidisciplinary ECLS team
• Understand different strategies for ECLS management for specific patient populations
