Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Educate physicians and APPs about their ethical and legal responsibilities and provide a confidential means for questions and reporting real or suspected misconduct.
  • Describe what Confidential Information includes, and the restrictions that apply to accessing and disclosing PHI
  • Recognize various elements of Environment of Care, both facility and personal responsibilities: safety management, principles of body mechanics, and security management.
  • Describe what an effective compliance program should, articulate and demonstrate an organization’s commitment to legal and ethical conduct, provide guidance on how to handle compliance questions and concerns, and provide guidance on how to identify and report compliance violations.
  • Explain infection prevention practices that reduce risk of HAI
  • Interpret UPMC information security policies, empower you to be a strong and effective defense against information breaches, and teach you how to comply with various regulatory requirements such as HIPAA, PCI, etc.
  • Describe the purpose of a focus on patient safety and the Safety Culture at UPMC
  • List the impact of physician leadership in patient safety
  • Identify your role in creating an inclusive workplace
  • Describe what is and is not harassment, how to report harassment, and explain the potential consequences of disregarding the policy
  • Identify the impact of sleep denervation and fatigue and how to combat it
  • Define restraint, when it is necessary, alternatives to restraint, and process for ordering restraint.
