University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy Fall 2023 Preceptor Continuing Education Seminar: Clinical Approaches to Obesity Management
Patients with diabetes are encouraged to maintain proper weight as part of the overall diabetes management plan. Additionally, the incidence of obesity is increasing in the US. New advances in medications to treat diabetes, and to treat obesity, are important for clinicians to know and understand as they provide care. Newer therapies for diabetes can promote weight loss, and clinical practice guidelines provide insight into proper use of these agents, from a therapeutic and safety perspective.
Management of patients with diabetes involves the patient, and their care team of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dieticians, diabetes educators, and other specialists. Education on proper pharmacologic agents, and their role in obesity management is key component of this collaborative care model.
