The 2025 Symposium of the Society for the Advancement of Transplant Anesthesia (SATA)
This SATA regional meeting is a virtual meeting designed to provide a multi-disciplinary review of the latest updates on a variety of preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative critical care management topics for abdominal and thoracic transplant patients.
Target Audience
Transplant Anesthesiologists, Intensivists, Transplant Surgeons, Residents, Fellows, and Medical Students.
Learning Objectives
Session 1: International Session of Transplant Anesthesia Societies
1. Understand global perspectives on transplant anesthesia advancements, focusing on lung and abdominal transplantation practices in Korea.
2. Identify recent developments in fast-track recovery methods for pediatric liver transplant recipients in Japan.
3. Examine the unique practices and challenges of transplantation anesthesia in China.
Pro/Con Debate: Vanguard Committee
1. Analyze the arguments for and against revascularizing severe coronary artery disease before liver transplant.
2. Evaluate evidence supporting each approach to determine how it might impact patient outcomes.
3. Consider how clinical guidelines and patient profiles influence decision-making in revascularization timing relative to liver transplantation.
Cardiothoracic Transplant Anesthesia
1. Gain knowledge on VA ECMO utilization in lung transplant and continuation protocols for specific conditions like primary pulmonary hypertension.
2. Discuss advancements in organ preservation and the role of DCD (Donation after Cardiac Death) in thoracic transplants.
3. Examine advanced ECMO configurations such as Protek Duo and their effectiveness in managing RV (right ventricular) failure.
