This activity provides an overview of the pathophysiology of traumatic coagulopathy and the evidence-based use of blood component therapy during resuscitation. Participants will also examine the influence of human factors and systems design on trauma resuscitation to support more effective, team-based care in high-acuity settings.

Target Audience

Anesthesiologists and anesthesiologists-in-training and other anesthesia professionals, nurse anesthetists and anesthesia assistants.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the physiological basis of traumatic coagulopathy.
  • Explain the rationale for the use of various blood component ratios in traumatic resuscitation.
  • Evaluate the impact of human factors and systems design on trauma resuscitation processes.
