Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT) builds skills for living with greater awareness, openness, and engagment in valued life pursuits. ACT integrates brief training in mindfulness and acceptance of thoughts and feelings with strategies for behavior change that help individuals move toward doing what they value most in life. During this workshop, the ACT Matrix, pictured below, will be introduced as a visual tool for clinicians to apply while interviewing patients, formulating cases, devising interventions, and making recommendations for ongoing care. The tool is appropriate for use with inpatients and outpatients presenting with a wide range of medical challenges. The goal of the workshop is for attendees to achieve increasing confidence throughout the training in using the ACT Matrix for managing consults and clinic visits effectively and efficiently.
