ABPath Continuing Certification

Continuing Medical Education (CME) Diplomates must obtain a minimum of 70 CME credits from any combination of accepted credit types during each two-year period if not meeting the Lifelong Learning requirement in another way. Accepted credits for ABPath are American Medical Association (AMA) PRA Category 1 CME credits and/or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Category 1A CME credits. Diplomates may claim AMA Category 1 CME credits for certain activities from the American Medical Association (AMA), including successfully completing an ABMS member board certification. Diplomates must apply directly to the AMA and provide documentation. Information and the AMA’s Direct Credit Application can be found on the AMA’s website. Eighty percent of required CME must be directly related to the diplomate’s scope of practice. The remainder may be in areas of general relevance to medicine (e.g., ethics, practice management, informatics, etc.) The ABPath reserves the right to audit a diplomate’s CME data and require copies of CME certificates. Diplomates should retain documentation of CME activities for at least three years

ABPath Eligible Activities

Not all CME activities are automatically recognized for physician MOC credit.  Physician MOC credit is only reported for CME activities that meet the rigorous requirements set forth by a particular board and were approved by the CME provider in advance.  If an activity qualifies for MOC credit, it will be specifically stated and automatically reported to the board on our end.

The UPMC CCEHS offers ABPath MOC to a select number of activities meeting the board requirements. These activities will have the following statement, "This activity fulfills the Lifelong Learning (Part II) CC Program requirements mandated by the American Board of Pathology.  Earn up to ___ Credit Hours upon completion"

To have your completion of an ABPath approved activity transmitted to the board, please add your Date of Birth and Board/Board ID number to your UPMC CCEHS CME profile. Instructions can be found here.

MPORTANT NOTE: Credits cannot be awarded retroactively. For this reason, if you were not awarded CME credit before the credit claiming deadline, or your CCE account, http://cce.upmc.com, did not identify you as an ABPath diplomate (including your Date of Birth (DOB) and Board ID), we are unable to transfer your credits
