This course is an introduction to airway management in critically ill patients. Attendees will enhance their skills surrounding pre-intubation airway assessments, laryngoscopy in patients with difficult anatomy , and lastly the use of advanced strategies for airway management.

Learning Objectives

The learner will be able to identify available resources at the hospital for airway backup

The learner be able to identify the importance of calling RI/Attending early when anticipating a difficult airway

The learner will be able to demonstrate aggressive suctioning techniques for intubation in GI/Variceal bleeding patients

The learner will be able to demonstrate ways to mitigate aspiration and unintended emesis

The learner will be able to understand alternative strategies for patient positioning to improve anatomical views during laryngoscopy 

The learner will be able to utilize the 3-3-2, LEMON, and other pre-intubation patient assessments to predict difficulty of airway management
