CHP CARDIOLOGY and CT SURGERY APP PROGRESS SIMULATION TRAINING 1-8-2026
Advanced Practice Providers at CHP are credentialed by via the CHP Medical Staff Office. To maintain a set of privileges the APP must demonstrate competency performing the given privilege/procedure. Not all APPs are able to perform the volume of procedures needed to demonstrate competency therefore a simulation-based training program was developed to ensure competency of privilege/procedure.

Learning Objectives
1.Perform and Demonstrate Technical Proficiency: After completing the simulation, learners will be able to competently perform key procedures in the Cardiology and CT Surgery including pacer wire removal, removal of chest tubes, removal of CVP catheters, removal of tunnels Broviac catheters, removal of PICC lines, and removal of pigtail catheters demonstrating proper technique, patient safety, and infection control practices.
2. Identify and Manage Potential Complications Learners will accurately identify signs of potential complications during and after device removal and will verbalize appropriate immediate management steps for each scenario in simulation.
3. Apply Knowledge to Patient-Centered Procedure Planning Participants will explain the clinical indications for device removal, appropriate timing based on patient condition, and post-removal care, demonstrating integration of cardiothoracic anatomy and pathophysiology in procedural decision-making.
