Comprehensive Anesthesiology Update Review of Regional Anesthesia: Updates, Perioperative Aspects, and Management

Target Audience

Anesthesiologists and anesthesiologists-in-training and other anesthesia professionals, nurse anesthetists, anesthesia assistants, intensivists and perioperative medicine specialists.

Learning Objectives


At the conclusion of this activity, the participant will be able to:

  • Safely manage the anesthetic concerns of the elderly patient, and patients with liver disease.
  • Explain anesthesia care for percutaneous valve and endovascular procedures
  • Review the physiology and pathophysiology of the nervous system during anesthesia and the postoperative care of neurosurgical patient including complications.
  • Identify the vulnerabilities of young children undergoing anesthesia, strategies for caring for complex pediatric patients, urgent/emergent procedures, and in non-operating room settings.
  • Outline the management and pharmacology of medications of regional anesthesia including complications, limitations and toxicity
  • Review maternal physiology during pregnancy and maternal hemorrhage and its treatment.
  • Demonstrate through examples the contributions and opportunities for Physician Anesthesiologist leadership within a hospital and health system.
  • Evaluate key Anesthesia Practice Management topics such as productivity, navigating the medical staff office, managing problematic physicians, and physician wellness.
  • Distinguish the causes of ventilator-associated pneumonia, and the factor for sepsis in the postoperative period.
  • Describe current developments in thoracic anesthesia, including new devices for one lung ventilation, protective one lung ventilation, and the care of patients with pulmonary hypertension.
