This course prepares participants to handle a potentially agitated and/or violent patient or visitor situation.  It teaches holistic awareness, crisis prevention, appropriate interventions, and what to do after a crisis situation occurs.  Comprehensive Crisis Management also includes a review of physical maneuvers, including escapes and emergency safety interventions.

Target Audience

This course is open to staff at UPMC St. Margaret including but not limited to nursing assistants/patient care technicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, physicians, and security offers.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify resources to promote safety of individuals receiving and providing care
  • Explain how to reduce the use of seclusion and restraint in all healthcare settings
  • Discuss eliminating the use of aversive and coercive interventions
  • Promote an environment of partnering and collaboration
