This course is a refresher intended for those who have completed Comprehensive Crisis Management within the past 12 months. It reviews how to handle a potentially agitated and/or violent patient or visitor situation, including a review of holistic awareness, crisis prevention, appropriate interventions, what to do after a crisis situation occurs, and physical maneuvers including escapes and emergency safety interventions.
Target Audience
This course is open to staff at UPMC St. Margaret who have completed Comprehensive Crisis Management within the past 12 months.
Learning Objectives
- Identify resources to promote safety of individuals receiving and providing care
- Explain how to reduce the use of seclusion and restraint in all healthcare settings
- Discuss eliminating the use of aversive and coercive interventions
- Promote an environment of partnering and collaboration
