Conversations About Race in the Emergency Department
This is a 2-hour program intended for ED physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and anyone else working in the ED. Content will include data on racial disparities in healthcare in general as well as in the ED specifically. Attendees will learn how to disrupt systemic racism in healthcare, improve the patient experience, and build a more inclusive work environment.
Target Audience
All Emergency Department personnel are invited - doctors, nurses, pharmacists, ancillary personnel, etc.
Learning Objectives
1. Identify racism and patterns of racism in the care of patients in the ED.
2. List at least 3 actions that can be taken to disrupt witnessed bias or discrimination.
3. Explain how recognizing and disrupting racism in the ED results in improved patient experiences.
4. Explain how open communication regarding racism in the ED results in a more inclusive work environment.
