This course allows medical professionals to learn and practice the principles of crisis team management.  Participants will understand the rationale for crisis team training, where it fits into a quality patient safety program, fundamentals of teamwork (with emphasis on cooperation and communication), and the importance of practice.  They will confront a series of different crisis events so they can learn the underlying principles of team function.

Target Audience

This course is open to code responders at UPMC St. Margaret, including physicians, advanced practice providers, intensive care unit nurses, stepdown nurses, and respiratory therapists.

Learning Objectives

  • Practice teamwork skills in a crisis team situation
  • Improve team performance and cycle through various roles in a crisis team situation
  • Use effective communication skills within a crisis team situation
