The aim of this lecture is to provide a greater understanding of the self-management tools and treatment options that may be utilized by patients with diabetes. As staff turnover or are hired, it is beneficial for personnel to understand the skills and devices that may be used to achieve treatment goals for patients followed by the Division of Pediatric Diabetes & Endocrinology.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, the learner will be able to:

  • Restate the Functionality and Use of Diabetes Devices – Explain the purpose, operation, and proper usage of key diabetes devices, including continuous glucose monitors (CGMs), insulin pumps, and smart insulin pens.
  • Explain how continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) work, interpret CGM data trends, and apply insights to optimize glucose control while increasing the ability to answer patients' and families' questions about CGM use and benefits.
