This educational talk will review best practice patterns, patient safety, complication avoidance, and pharmacology of emergency procedural sedation.

Learning Objectives

1. Describe risk factors for adverse outcomes during emergency procedural sedation 2. Describe criteria for safe discharge of patients after emergency procedural sedation 3. Understand common complications of emergency procedural sedation and necessary interventions to ensure patient safety 4. Describe pharmacologic characteristics of common procedural sedation medications that influence choice of medication based on patient factors.
