Program description
During this session, we will explore the concepts of privacy and confidentiality within the clinical setting and explore the challenges to protecting patient privacy as well as potential exceptions to the obligation to keep patient information confidential within the healthcare setting.

Vice President of Programs for Catholic Social Services in Columbus, Ohio
Amy VanDyke, MSW, LSW, Ph.D. serves as the Vice President of Programs for Catholic Social Services in Columbus, Ohio—focusing on ethics and justice issues in the care for the poor and vulnerable. Dr. VanDyke also serves as a member of a national workgroup developing ethics education and consultation services for 163 Catholic Charities Organizations across the United States.
Formerly the System Ethicist for Mount Carmel Health System, also in Columbus Ohio, Dr. VanDyke was responsible for the development and implementation of all ethics services and programs for the multiple hospital system. Dr. VanDyke was also previously employed by Kaiser-Permanente as the Director of Bioethics in the West Los Angeles Region of Southern California and as the Consulting Ethicist at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Dr. VanDyke earned her PhD in healthcare ethics from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and her Master's degree and undergraduate degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. VanDyke is a member of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities (ASBH), National Association of Social Workers (NASW), and the European Society on the Philosophy of Medicine and Health Care (ESPMH).
