Foundations to Practice: Overview of Solid Tumors (9-15-21)

This course provides an overview of a variety of solid tumors, including breast, colorectal, lung, melanoma, prostate, genitourinary, gastrointestinal, brain, and gynecologic malignancies. This course is strongly recommended as a prerequisite for the Comprehensive Chemotherapy and Biological Therapies Course. 

Target Audience

This course addresses the needs of advanced practice providers, registered nurses, pharmacists, social workers, and other members of the healthcare team who care for oncology patients in the acute care, outpatient, extended care, rehabilitation, and home care settings. Other healthcare professionals involved in cancer care, or those who wish to expand their knowledge of cancer care, are also welcomed to attend.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the course, participants should be able to:

  • Explain resources that are available from the American Cancer Society.
  • Identify risk factors that may lead to the development of solid tumors.
  • Recall screening guidelines for solid tumors.
  • Explain the diagnostic work up for solid tumors.
  • Recognize treatment options and supportive care measures to utilize for patients who have solid tumors.
  • Demonstrate learning has occurred by receiving at least an 85% on final quiz.
