Geriatric Resource Nurse

Geriatric Resource Nurse Training (GRN)  Virtual Microsoft Teams

Course Description: This full day virtual class focuses on older adult assessment and practical interventions to improve patient care.   Additionally, this training addresses a working knowledge of the potentially inappropriate medications, physical, psychological and psychosocial assessment skills, and common geriatric syndromes. An overview of dementia and challenging behavior is presented.  Following the training, for no additional charge, nurses will be able to sit for an exam.  Upon passing the exam, the participant is issued a certificate from UPMC Senior Services designating the nurse as a Geriatric Resource Nurse.  7.0 CE credits are available for registered nurses. 

This course is for RNs and LPNs who are enrolled in the MySTEPP program with UPMC Senior Communities or are staff at UPMC McKeesport or UPMC East.  A separate registration is also required.  Please see your supervisor or contact Melissa Jones jonems2@upmc.edu for more information.

Melissa Jones is the geriatric nurse educator with UPMC Senior Services.  She is a Certified Dementia Practitioner through the NCCDP and is a Dementia Cares Specialist. She hold a Masters in Nursing Education and has practiced nursing in various care settings including nephrology, developmental disabilities, community and medical education. Melissa is also part time adjunct clinical faculty with Duquesne School of Nursing.
