Health Literacy - UPMC Health Plan

Literacy usually refers to how well someone understand verbal and written communication. Health literacy encompasses how well someone understands their diagnosis, treatment plan, medications, where to go for help, and how to use their insurance plan. This module will provide tools you can use to enhance your Participant’s health literacy skills.

  • Describe the key concepts of Health Literacy and its impact on health outcomes.
  • Define Teach-Back, Plain Language, Ask me 3, and Questions are the Answer their purpose and key features.
  • Demonstrate how health literacy tools can be applied to practice.
