Learning Objectives
1. Demonstrate increased proficiency in core MI skills, including complex reflections and strategic use of open-ended questions.
2. Apply the four processes of MI (Engaging, Focusing, Evoking, Planning).
3. Identify and respond effectively to sustain talk and discord while preserving the therapeutic alliance.
4. Strengthen client change talk through advanced evoking techniques and focused reflection.
This intermediate/advanced workshop is designed for practitioners with prior foundational knowledge of Motivational Interviewing (MI) who are ready to deepen their skills and enhance their effectiveness. The workshop will include hands-on practice, real-play exercises, and in-depth feedback. Practice sessions will help attendees refine their ability to implement elements of MI, emphasizing strategic use of complex reflections, navigating ambivalence, and responding skillfully to sustain talk and resistance, while maintaining fidelity to the MI spirit and processes.

Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. University of Pittsburgh maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive 5.50 continuing education credits.
Physician Assistant (AAPA)
