Introduction to Oncology for the Healthcare Provider 2/3/2022

This one day course provides an overview of cancer, disease process, treatments, symptom management, and the impact on patients and caregivers. It is intended to enhance the practice of health care professionals and ancillary staff new to any oncology setting.

Target Audience

Advanced practice providers, registered nurses, research staff, social workers, pharmacists, patient care technicians, nursing assistants, and front office or supportive staff.

Learning Objectives

After the completion of the course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Define the pathophysiology of malignant disease and factors that can increase a person’s risk of developing cancer.
  2. Recall proper guidelines surrounding those who are administering or receiving chemotherapy.
  3. Recall the role of different treatment modalities in the management of patients with cancer.
  4. Identify supportive care, symptom management, and psychosocial needs of patients with cancer.
